News: Spectrum M1+ Kit Specification Upgrade
Group buy initiative - 192 KHz Spectrum for Under £99-
Overview: The
aim of the group buy is to manufacture the electronics and software for
a DSP Spectrum kit at the lowest possible cost, yet include novel
features and the ability for user-programming with easy remote updates. The original specification included an Arm M4 Cortex 32-bit 80 MHz DSP processor SMT board with 256KB of program memory, 64KB of RAM, 12-bit sampling, and a 320x240 Touch LCD at £78.99. In contrast, the existing Spectrum M2 DSP uses an Arm M4 168 MHz MCU with 1MB of program memory, and 192 KB of RAM. Whilst this was the most economic solution, for an additional £20 we propose to increase the specification to include the latest Arm M7 Cortex 480 MHz DSP processor with 2MB of program memory, 1MB of RAM and 16-bit ADC sampling, which will provide significantly better screen updating, including streamed toAndroid Tablet or PC, and very sensitive DSP audio*. In addition this upgrade would benefit from a unified development platform with the Spectrum DSP M3, which also uses the same Arm M7 core. This would lead to firmware updates with advanced features such as interactive voice control and automatic station search. |
